Westminster Campus Programme
Creating a more efficient, interoperable, sustainable and inclusive workplace for civil servants.
The Civil Service is moving away from single occupancy buildings in London to increase efficiency and reduce the cost of the Government estate.
The Westminster Campus (formerly known as the Whitehall Campus) is a 10-year programme that will provide a flexible campus to support 40,000 Civil Service roles. It will manage the disposal of 67 existing buildings and the refurbishment of 17 buildings in the heart of Whitehall, to create a thriving and productive workplace that delivers a common experience for all civil servants.
All buildings within the Campus will be managed as a single entity and will be fully interoperable in terms of technology, security, workspace, meeting rooms and health and safety. Civil servants based in the buildings will be able to connect to GovWifi, GovPrint and use GovPass to move freely around the Campus to make use of the different workspaces available.
Many of the buildings within the Campus are listed due to their age and history but will restore and retain heritage elements while modifying to meet our Government Workplace Design Guide, providing customer-focused, digitally connected and inclusive environments.
The Campus will provide a range of different facilities to cater for different work tasks, such as digital meeting rooms, privacy pods and events centres. Health and wellbeing requirements will also be considered and areas for reflection, recovery, ablution and refreshment will be designed into the new areas.
Enabling different government departments to share office space will contribute to creating an interoperable, more efficient London estate that will reduce the government’s carbon footprint and save taxpayer money.
The Westminster Campus offers office facilities that support the development of our office hubs across the regions. This will create consistent office standards that support smarter and hybrid working.
