Seamless connections with GovWifi
Allowing civil servants to connect seamlessly to the internet, whether working inside or outside their home office, is a tangible benefit and a practical example of how interoperability works across the government.
For the past two years, our Property Technology team has provided GovWifi at Civil Service Live. This enables civil servants to connect to the internet using the same secure wifi network available across much of the government estate. In 2026, we hosted GovWifi at Civil Service Live events at ExCel London and the International Conference Centre, Edinburgh.
We also provided GovWifi at the UK Government Pavilion during the UK Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF). This was delivered using our pop-up network solution designed and managed by technical architect Nick Welsh. Providing internet access at off-site events helps civil servants work productively across different locations and venues in a secure environment.
Across these recent events, we supported 8,207 unique user connections, including:
5,800
unique user connections at Civil Service Live, London
1,543
unique user connections at Civil Service Live, Edinburgh
864
unique user connections at UKREiiF Pavilion
To deliver reliable connectivity at off-site venues, we deploy two distinct technical models:
Under our standard broadcast model, used at Civil Service Live, connectivity operated in the same way as government offices without the requirement to build or manage an on-site network from scratch. We connect existing venue infrastructure directly to the GovWifi authentication service. This allows both new and registered users to connect using their standard login credentials. We deploy this solution at any venue supporting services commissioned by a publicly funded organisation.
Where a fixed network is unavailable, we use our pop-up network solution, as showcased at UKREiiF. This bespoke, portable set-up brings dedicated hardware directly to the site, connecting local access points through a fibre internet connection. We use this portable deployment when a venue does not have readily compatible digital infastructure, or when civil servants attend private-sector events where secure, friction-free connectivity is essential for government business.
As cross-government collaboration grows, we continue to expand GovWifi across more public events and venues. By removing connectivity barriers, we help civil servants stay secure, flexible and connected wherever they work.
